About this generation

Mazda CX-5 KM: differences between Japanese S and L grades

The third-generation Mazda CX-5 KM went on sale in Japan on 21 May 2026. Its e-SKYACTIV G 2.5 powertrain combines a petrol engine with the M Hybrid mild-hybrid system. In Japanese 2.5 S and 2.5 S 4WD grades, the 2488 cc PY-VPH engine produces 178 PS. This is the combustion engine rating and should not be added to a separate electric motor rating.

Compare front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive using S and S 4WD from May 2026. Both have a six-speed automatic transmission, five seats and 205 mm ground clearance. Choosing 4WD here changes the drive layout, while the seat count and stated clearance remain the same. Treat drive layout and equipment grade as separate choices.

Front-wheel-drive 2.5 S and 2.5 L from the same period have distinct wheel and cabin specifications. S combines 225/65R17 tyres, cloth upholstery and a 12.9-inch touchscreen; L uses 225/55R19 tyres, leather upholstery and a 15.6-inch screen. Before choosing a second set of wheels, check the size fitted to the individual car.

A panoramic roof is optional on 2.5 L, so the L badge alone does not confirm that it is fitted. Match the trim card to cabin photographs and the car's equipment list before choosing a vehicle. This lets you compare the S and L features that matter to you without assuming that every car has all the equipment offered on the higher grade.
