Yaris Cross XP210: choosing a Japanese version after the 2024 update

The updated Yaris Cross XP210 went on sale in Japan on 17 January 2024. It received a revised upper grille pattern, with GR Sport retaining its separate treatment, and a soft front armrest with a console box except on X and U grades. Identify the grade as well as the year when choosing a car.

For front-wheel-drive cars built from January 2024 through January 2025, choosing between 1.5 Z and 1.5 Hybrid Z means choosing different powertrains. The petrol Z uses a 1490 cc M15A-FKS engine rated at 120 PS; Hybrid Z uses the same-capacity M15A-FXE, whose petrol engine produces 91 PS. That last figure is the combustion engine rating, not the combined output of the hybrid system.

Front-wheel-drive 1.5 Hybrid GR Sport and 1.5 Hybrid Z from that period both use 215/50R18 tyres, but ground clearance is 160 and 170 mm respectively. Equipment also differs: front seat heating is standard on Hybrid Z and optional on Hybrid GR Sport. A sporting grade name alone does not establish which comfort features a car has.

To compare drive layouts, use 1.5 Hybrid Z and 1.5 Hybrid Z 4WD from January 2024 through January 2025. The front-drive version has a torsion-beam rear suspension; 4WD uses an independent double-wishbone layout, while both have 170 mm ground clearance. Open the exact trim card and match it to the car's production month: these examples do not establish the specifications of a later car with a similar grade name.
