Toyota bZ4X from China: one electric car, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive

Toyota bZ4X is an electric crossover, sales of which began in Japan in May 2022. The 2023 car from the Chinese example belongs to the first, pre-restyled version. In the Chinese market, two noticeably different cars were sold under this name: front-wheel drive with 204 hp. and all-wheel drive with two electric motors with 218 hp.

One motor or two

The difference of 14 hp looks modest on paper, but there is another device behind it: the all-wheel drive version has two electric motors. This is an electric car, not a hybrid with a petrol engine, and you have to check it according to your own rules – the battery is more important here than the motor.

The combination of all-wheel drive and 218 hp was found in several trim levels, so one line “4WD” does not yet describe the car. It is more convenient to write out in advance the equipment that you will really need every day, and check specific offers already on this list.

What is more important than mileage

The condition of the traction battery is assessed separately from the mileage: the number on the odometer does not replace diagnostics. For a used bZ4X, this is the main check point, along with the configuration and service history.
