Nissan NV200 16X-2R 2026 from Japan: Work Van or Family Minivan

In Japan, two lines are sold under the same name Nissan NV200: a cargo van for distribution, workshops and service routes, and a passenger station wagon for family and travel. From the outside, they are almost the same, so the version is determined not by the body in the picture, but by the designation of the configuration, and the new 2026 NV200 with the designation 1.6 16X-2R already has these letters that refer the car to the passenger line.
Two lines under one name
On December 15, 2025, sales of the updated NV200 Vanette began in Japan: vans come in DX, VX and GX versions, and passenger station wagons are designated 16X-2R and 16X-3R. The engine of both lines is the same – a 1.6-liter HR16DE petrol engine, and the differences start with the drive and gearbox.
| Van DX, VX, GX | Estate 16X-2R, 16X-3R | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Cargo and delivery | Passengers and baggage |
| Drive | front or full | Front |
| Box | CVT with front-wheel drive, four-speed automatic transmission with full wheel drive | CVT |
What does 16X-2R mean
The 16X is a passenger station wagon with a 1.6-liter engine, the 2R has two rows of seats and five seats. Behind the second row there is cargo space, and the seven-seater 16X-3R is distinguished by a third row, which occupies part of this space.
Work van or family minivan
If the car is needed for cargo and a constant route, it is more logical to look at the van: it is conceived for luggage, and vans have all-wheel drive in the NV200, while station wagons are available with front-wheel drive and a CVT. For snowy roads, all-wheel drive is one of the factors along with the tyres, conditions and version of the car, so choosing one drive does not solve much.
The 16X-2R is suitable for those who have a job and family sharing the same car: people are driving in the second row, boxes or tools are placed behind it, and on weekends the same NV200 serves as a family minivan. The seven-seater 16X-3R is more convenient for a large family, but it has less space for cargo behind the third row.
Price benchmark
On June 2, 2026, for the new 2026 Nissan NV200 16X-2R without mileage, with an auction valuation of S and front-wheel drive, the total in Vladivostok was 2,000,000 rubles, and transportation to another city is counted separately – it is described in the section Delivery in Russia. For another car, an up-to-date calculation is needed.
Choosing the NV200 begins with a task: a van with the right drive is suitable for cargo and route, and a 16X-2R or 16X-3R station wagon is suitable for people and luggage. How the purchase of this model works is described on the Nissan NV200 page from Japan, and generations and versions are collected in the Nissan NV200 catalog.
