Mud tyres: how to choose and not regret
If you regularly drive off the asphalt and know firsthand what real mud is, then you probably understand: ordinary tyres in such conditions do not withstand for a long time. This is where mud tyres (MT) come to the rescue - aggressive in tread pattern, noisy on the road, but providing maximum grip where others are powerless. Let's figure out how to choose the right ones.
✅ The Protector is the main character
The deeper and "angrier" it is, the better the tyres will rake out of the mud. Pay attention to:
➖ Large draughts
➖ long distances between them
➖ Reinforced side lugs
✅ Size matters
The larger the diameter means the higher the cross-country ability, but:
➖ you need a lifted suspension
➖ The load on the transmission is increasing
➖ Fuel consumption increases
✅ Rubber composition
Soft tires cling better, but wear out faster. Hard tires live longer, but can be inferior in extreme mud. If you drive on asphalt, take something in between.
✅ Sidewalls
The stronger they are, the less chance they have to puncture the wheel on stones or roots. For off-roading, this is critical.
✅ Noise and comfort
Yes, MT tires are noisy. And sometimes a lot. If you're on the track 90% of the time, you might want to consider AT (All Terrain) as a compromise.
